Rei Sakuma ー さくまれい
okay. i know how it sounds. im not one of THOSE people about rei. don't get me wrong. i actually love him but i am more focused on the crossroads side of things (wow who knew). idk man theres some amazing yaoi in the way you and this other guy met at a crossroads and you're still unsure to this day if either of you took the right path. his forgiveness towards keito kills me but at the same time there is a degree that he's still hurt and toying with people is just part of his persona that ore rei had but man. idk. i miss him i sound like a glutton that would not be satisfied with the riches of heaven but honestly he hasnt gotten a 5* lately (yes he has) even if he got plenty of 4*s (this is true im tired of seeing this guys face on scouts). they need to make another lookback for crossroads (no) but his actual mentality kills me like every day wdym you want to be taken care of because putting too much faith in others is what hurt you.
also you'd never guess but i am a sakumabros liker so the lookback for the sakumas actually killed me i think about easter sunday a lot as well and it kills me why are the sakumas so complex genuinely. i havent read the story for the lookback (hasnt looked for a TL) but its just so depressing to me about the past with the sakumabros like their vampirism stems from a genetic condition and then ritsu got a worse form of it therefore rei left to england to go find a cure AND RITSU THINKS HE WAS ABANDONED. like oh my god the way you barely get ritsu calling rei oniichan or anything of the sort is so . :( they make me so sad .
lowkey have to critique some of rei's early writing for the sake of my own integrity because i did read devils (the one with rei ritsu tsumugi and hinata where they switched whos the older whos the younger brother stuff) and like yeah rei was a bit of a freak BUT THE CARD CGS MAKE ME WANT TO DIE SO BAD.
do you see this shit spiderman like oh my god can we all just kill ourselves so many of the sakumabro cards make me want to cry cuz like even after all this theyre still brothers....
additional point. black snow. the focus on the sakumabros was natural but i love reis character honestly because it does reflect him as a person a lot which is so depressing but also the general plot development within the story meant a lot to me. i crode. i dont remember a lot of it lets be fair but i know ritsu isolated himself which is just so sad and like yeah. sobs. not to make it all abt ritsu though.
i think rei in himself is like a really interesting character particularly from the ! era since that's when he really embraced that kind of 'old man' persona that he built for himself as to not be burdened with the idea of letting people down. i'm still to read setsubun (hasnt read an enstars story like all year) but i rlly want to and i think thatll just add to my impression of rei but in gen its difficult to put my feelings abt him in words. js gonna say i do think his initial is very ugly what were people thirsting over but i have him in my lineup on basic so maybe ive just looked at it too often to consider it attractive in any medium.

rei sakuma is a graduate of yumenosaki academy and previous student council president (for 1 year). he was also a former member of the unit DEADMANZ and a current member of the unit UNDEAD.
in the pre-! era, he spoke brashly in a way referred to as 'ore' rei (ore being the pronoun he used at the time, a pronoun used by strong masculine figures who tend to come off pretentious and selfrighteous), but after the war he transitioned to using the traditional and archaic pronoun, 'wagahai'.
due to past issues between getting too attached to people, he adopted a 'grandpa' persona for people to take care of him, so he didn't have to take care of others. this demeanour changed over time, but despite caring about others again he still keeps this up. however, he can supplement this sort of demeanour with his own chronic condition. the sakuma family hold the belief that they are vampires, due to a condition that makes them weak to sunlight, therefore they hold blood rituals yearly (shown in easter sunday. unfortunately for my eyes.), and rei is forced to behave more docile as he is assumed to be the heir. the heir cannot be his younger brother, ritsu, as ritsu's condition is worse than his, making him physically unstable at times.
during his second year, he frequently left japan for other countries, searching for a cure for his beloved younger brother's illness. however, ritsu felt as if rei was abandoning him, meaning they grew apart. he spent time in england at one point, and this is what caused them to truly break away from eachother, as rei came back with his 'wagahai' pronoun, making ritsu feel like this 'new' rei was not his brother at all, but more like an imposter.
